From Rage to Rebirth: Voices of 9/11

An Inspiring Multi-Media Event

Join us at The Actors Theatre Workshop on Sunday 9/18 and Sunday 9/25 for an inspiring multi-media event commemorating the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. including a video documentary and art exhibit of homeless children's response to 9/11, and a new theatre piece that reflects on what we as a community and nation have taken from the experience of 9/11.

Immediately following the 9/11 attacks, The Actors Theatre Workshop held a special session of The Builders of the New World, ATW's theatre and education program for homeless children and at-risk youth. During this session the children and their families, led by ATW's Artistic Director and Founder Thurman E. Scott, joined together in a creative process to create original artwork and stories, expressing their understanding of the attacks and bringing hope back to our community. This process culminated in an inspiring performance in which the children put into practice the creative education techniques they learned in order to share their insights and new vision for our future.

We captured this tremendous outpouring of creative work and community support in an inspiring video documentary that will be screened at ATW on Sunday, 9/18 and 9/25 as the first act of our multi-media event. The documentary has now inspired a new theatre piece that was conceived, developed and directed by Thurman E. Scott and will be performed during the second act by ATW's ensemble acting company and members of the NYC community.

Please join us on Sunday 9/18 and Sunday 9/25 at the following times:

Sundays 9/18 and 9/25:

2:00pm - Art Exhibit of children's artwork and stories opens
3:00pm - Video Documentary and New Theatre Piece
(Q&A with Director Thurman E. Scott directly following the performance)

Suggested Donation: $20, or pay what you can. If a higher donation is possible, it would be deeply appreciated as all donations go towards our continued work in the community.

The Actors Theatre Workshop

The Actors Theatre Workshop is an established pioneer in non-profit theatre that produces classical and contemporary plays, develops new dramatic works, trains and develops actors, writers and directors while making a difference in the lives of homeless children and the community at large. ATW was founded over two decades ago in a studio on Manhattan's upper west side. In 1990, with an outpouring of public and private support, ATW built a new theatre complex and performance space in Chelsea.

Since 1990, ATW has flourished as an artistic leader in the field, producing award-winning programs and productions addressing the enormous cultural challenges of childhood poverty and inclusive community building, maintaining high artistic training standards, and developing an organization of artistic merit that has proven itself worthy of public, private and civic support.

Thurman E. Scott, ATW's Artistic Director, Executive Producer and Founder, is a widely acknowledged expert of artistic project development. As a director/producer, he creates new products for stage, television and film, from concept to final production. Mr. Scott is an innovator of award-winning arts curriculums and programs for professional artistic training as well as public service to culturally under-served communities.
